In Person/ Zoom Meeting

Monday, March 18th, 2024 at the Optimist Clubhouse

Meeting began at 12:00 noon

Members in attendance: President Mike Hatchett, Ed Musterman, Rick McKernan, Carl Scott, Jack Cruise, Larry Fick, Brent Sappington, C.O. Scheffer, Kelly Schilling, Jerry Sullivan, Daryl Stockhill, Steve Winters, James Murphy, and Mary Dewey

Special Guests:  Pat Kelly, Donnetta Hill, Bob Slemmons and Brooke Orschlen

Invocation: Mary Dewey

Pledge of Allegiance:  Carl Scott

Birthdays/Anniversaries:  Mike Hatchett wedding 15th Anniversary

Volunteer Hours: Larry Fick Food Bank 2 hours, and Knight of Columbus 30 hours,

Barb West 10 hours at the Armory Sports and Recreation Center pantry

Pay the pig (Money goes to the OIF Children Cancer):  Mike Hatchett paid $1.25 for pick on Rick about KU

Weekly Drawing:

Kelly Schilling has club t-shirt for sale for $13 for member and free for new members

Boy’s and Girl’s Club Chili Cook off will be on Saturday, April 20th at the Holiday Inn Executive Center (2200 1-70 Dr. SW) Greg Schneider is the chair of. Please let him know if you can help out with handing out the samples of chili in the afternoon.

Jerry Sullivan on Saturday, April 6 the 1st Annual Pickle Ball Tournament. We have 26 teams. Still looking for more teams to sign up.

Rick McKernan talked about the Bill of Right Geo Cashing event that will be hosting this in the month of March. We will be put out the cartons on February 29th in 10 different parks throughout Columbia Parks, they will need to take a selfie of themselves reading the Bill of Right that they find in that park. After they find all the parts of the Bill of Right they will send them into us and we will pick the winner. All of the Geo Cashing are hidden and Rick has got some selfies sent in already.

Mary Dewey has signed up the Downtown Optimist Club with the other clubs in Columbia for Columbia Parks and Recreation Family Fun Fest. The dates are Wednesday, May 15: Bee Kind to Your Mind at COSMO Park, Thursday, June 20th: Junteenth Jamboree at COSMO Park, Wednesday, July 17:  Healthy Habits at Albert-Oakland Park, Wednesday, August 21:  Be Prepared at Albert-Oakland, and Wednesday, September 18: Creative Kids at Albert Oakland Park. The events start at 6 and will end at 8 pm. Set up stars at 5 pm. C.O. Scheffer will be sending out sign up Genies for this event please sign up to help.

Mary Dewey also has our annual Bike Safety Rodeo set for Saturday, April 20 from 9:30 to 11:30 am at Karis Church parking lot. C.O. Scheffer will be sending out sign up Genies for this event please sign up to help.

3th Qtr. East Missouri Optimist District meeting will be on May 3 and 4 in Washington Missouri.  Please let Mike know if you want to attended ASAP.
