In Person/ Zoom Meeting

Monday, April 15th, 2024 at the Optimist Clubhouse

Meeting began at 12:00 noon

Members in attendance: President Mike Hachett, Ed Musterman, Rick McKernan, Carl Scott, Jerry Sullivan, Daryl Stockstill, Brent Sappington, Ken Oster, Nadi Ryakmyatulliov (by Zoom), Jim Murphy, Main Hussein, C.O. Scheffer, Trevor Harris (by Zoom), Bob Slemmons, Deborah Swanegan, Pat Kelly, Pat Brown and Mary Dewey

Special Guests:  Ken’s wife Beverly, Adam (Soap Box dad) Rick’s friend, Jean Neager (EMO Governor-Elect).

Welcome back Pat Brown who had Knee Replacement last month

Birthdays/Anniversaries:  

Sunday, April 14th: Max Miller Birthday and Tony Parision joined in 2017

Pay the pig (Money goes to the OIF Children Cancer) Rick McKernan paid $1.00 for talking out of turn during the meeting, Pat Brown paid $10.00 for the Mizzou Softball team, Carl Scott paid a $1.00 for the Mizzou Softball team also and Indiana State Basketball team  and Jerry Sullivan paid a $.25 for Nadia Ryakmyatulliov for being on TV.

Jean Neager talked to us about the 3th qtr. Conference that will take place in Washington, MO on May 3rd and 4th. Please sign up and come enjoy the Oratorical. She also talked about next there will be 5 Zones. Mary Dewey will be the Lt. Governor of Zone 1 which is made up of present Zone 1 and Zone 2 and Ashland Optimist Club for next year. She also reminded us that we need to work on our next year officers that will be due on May 20th.  4th qtr. Conversation will be in Columbia in August. If you are 60 and over please check out Hellpgrouper.com/Optimist they will pay for you to be a member of the Optimist Club and if you have already paid for this year you will get your money back.

Kelly Schilling has club t-shirt for sale for $13 for member and free for new members

Jerry Sullivan let us know that we made about 5 hundred from the Pickle ball Tournament that we hosted on Saturday, April 6th. We had 40 teams

Rick McKernan talked about the Bill of Right we only had one that we had to replace at the beginning of the month. Everything is going great

Mary Dewey reminds everyone about the Bike Safety Rodeo that will be this Saturday, April 20th from 9:30 to 11:30 at Karis Church parking lot.

Mary Dewey has signed up the Downtown Optimist Club with the other clubs in Columbia for Columbia Parks and Recreation Family Fun Fest. The dates are Wednesday, May 15: Bee Kind to Your Mind at COSMO Park, Thursday, June 20th: Junteenth Jamboree at COSMO Park, Wednesday, July 17:  Healthy Habits at Albert-Oakland Park, Wednesday, August 21:  Be Prepared at Albert-Oakland, and Wednesday, September 18: Creative Kids at Albert Oakland Park. The events start at 6 and will end at 8 pm. Set up stars at 5 pm. C.O. Scheffer will be sending out sign up Genies for this event please sign up to help.

Nadi Ryakmyatulliov want to let us know that she will let us know on Monday who the 8 high school students who one our 8 high school scholarships. Each scholarship will be a thousand dollars. She will be needing help this year to hand them out at the award assemblies. There were a total of 40 students who applied this year.

Rick McKernan reminded us about the MFA Oil Rootin Tootin Boy’s and Girl’s Club Chili Contest this Saturday, April 20th at the Holiday Inn Executive Center from 2:00 to 6:00pm.  Need help with making the chili and giving out the samples of the chili.

Board Meeting this Thursday, April 18th at 6:00 pm. We have 1 funding request from the Central and Northeast Missouri Food Bank for $5000 for the buddy packs. We have 1 new member application to vote on for Adam Curmbliss.

Our guest speaker: Garrett Rucinski, Director of Engagement City of Refuge. Slide show will come later.
