Meeting began at 12:01 pm

Members attend in person President Tony Pariso, Jerry Sullivan, Red Leighton, Rick McKernan, Larry Fick, Steve Klein, James Murphy, Mike Hackett, Carl Scott, C.O. Scheffer, Ken Oster, Deb Swanegan, and Mary Dewey. Special Guest: Beverly Oster Ken’s wife and Luke Neal

Birthday/Anniversary: Deb Swanegan Birthday is August 30

Bike Safety Rodeo will be at the Northeast Regional Park (old fairground) inside on Saturday, September 24 from 9:30 to 11:30 am.

4th qtr. East Missouri Optimist District meeting will on Friday, August 26 through Sunday, August 28 in St. Louis. Please let Tony know if you want to go to the conference. It was a great conference learned a lot about leadership.

Tony Pariso talked about the Wednesday, August 31 Koeze Nut Kick off dinner at the Clubhouse at 6:00 pm. Make sure everyone comes to hear Red Leighton speak about selling Koeze Nuts and gift cards. $10.00 a person

We will be hosting a School Supplies Drive this month until August 19, 2022. Kelly Schilling will be the chair person for this event. Please bring the school supplies to the clubhouse on Monday when you come to the club meetings.

Rick McKerman also talked about the August 9 Civic Club Meeting they had here at the Club house. The following clubs were here and talked about their upcoming project on September 10th from 9 to 11 cleaning up COSMO Park. The clubs were other Optimist Clubs in Columbia, COSOM Club, Lions Club, and Kiwanis Club. After we are done cleaning up the park will we come back to the club house for ice cream.

Rick McKerman will be doing a Washington Optimist Club Soapbox Derby Demo. He will need help loading the ramps onto the trailer this Wednesday, August 24 at 6:30 pm.  They had a derby back in 1964 and 1965.

Mike Maune, the runner-up of the 1964 Washington Soap Box Derby, races a soap box derby car on Saturday, Aug. 27, as part of a soap box derby exhibition. The exhibition, which was planned as part of the inaugural Missouri Book Festival, featured several heats of races prior to Maune’s rematch with Jerry Dreisewerd, the champion of the 1964 race.
