Introduction of Guests Jerry Sullivan was a guest. Jerry recently moved to Columbia from Farmington , MO to be Closer to his son. He knew about the mission of the Optimist International already and looked us up on the internet to see where our meeting was held at. jerry had been involved with the Upward Bound program in Farmington. Welcome Jerry to our club. Invitation to join our club was extended to him

Upcoming DOC events:
On Thursday, January 17th at 6:00 pm D.O.C Board meeting at the our clubhouse
On Tuesday, January 22nd Downtown Optimist Club will have their Annual Chili Cook off at our clubhouse starting 6:00 pm. Menu will consist of various chili from our club members plus cornbread, brownies an ice cream. Cost is $10/adult. There is no meal charge for kids.
On Monday, January 28th our weekly meeting will be held at night at the Tiger Hotel in downtown Columbia starting at 6:00 pm. Hosts will be Nadia Ryakmyaullov and Kelly Schilling. Every 4th Monday of each month our club will be hosting an evening meeting at various location in Columbia. Club is holding these night meeting to concerns of our young members who are working during the day. Also they are used as a recruiting tool to bring in new potential members.
On Wednesday, January 30th Rick McKernan announced that there will be a Soap Box Derby meeting that night at our clubhouse. We could have up to 50 cars racing this year.
Tri-District Optimist (West Missouri, east Missouri and Kansas 2rd Quarter Conference: on Friday, February 15 and Saturday, February 16 at the Adam’s Marks Hotel (9103 East 39th Street Kansas City, MO). If anyone is interested please let me know as soon as you can Registration deadline is Friday, February 8.
We are sponsoring 2 CYBA this year. We are sponsoring a 1st and 2nd grade team and a 4th grade boys team. The 1st and 2nd grade team is playing at Beulah Ralph at 10:00 am by Shannon Bahadori and Wendell Cooncethis Saturday and the 4th grade boys team is playing at 11:00 am coach Kevin Pistole at Gentry Middle School. If you have time Saturday please go out and support our teams. If you want a copy of their schedule please let me know and I can get you one.
On Saturday, February 16th our club will be participating in the Boys and Girls Club of Columbia Annual Rootin’ Tootin’ Chili Contest at the Holiday inn Executive Center in Columbia. This is a Boy’s and Girl’s Club of Columbia Annual Fundraiser.
On Saturday, February 23rd the Downtown Optimist Club will be involved with the VAC Computer Giveaway. They will be using our clubhouse space to give away 40 to 43 computer that morning to youth from 9 to 12 pm.

Ashland Optimist Club Pancake Day is on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the Ashland Optimist Club House (511 Optimist Dr.) from 6:30 am to 2:00 pm
Midway Optimist Club Pancake Breakfast is on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at the Midway Elementary School ( 8130 US Highway 40 West) from 7:00 to 10:30 am. Cost is $7.00 for Adults and $4.00 for kids (K-5th grade).
I would like to Thanks Carl Scott for take the notes and Rick McKernan in running the meeting for me. I was snowed in at home in Fulton with 20 inches of snow and a car that needed to be towed out of the ditch after I slide off the road Friday night trying to get home.
